Misty recently visited The New York Times to promote her new campaign, Project Pet Slim Down with Purina, that encourages dog owners to exercise with their pets and put an end to pet obesity.

Misty told the New York Times of the reason she teamed up with Purina to promote healthier pets,

I’m an avid animal lover. When I was 16, I wanted to be a vet or a zookeeper. I grew up with animals. At one time we had between five and eight dogs in the house, with four cats. We’re menagerie people.

My campaign is about getting pets to be more active, and exercise with your animal is a great way for people to exercise. When you’re out with your pet it becomes fun. You don’t think of it as a chore. For me, taking my dog out for a walk is very relaxing.

Sadly, Misty recently lost her beloved Boxer, Gruden, to old age. But, shared moments of their life together with her fans and friends on Twitter. Before he died, she posted a picture of the sweet, old boy, tweeting, “The best sous chef in town…plus he can do dishes, hahaha.”

Misty’s olympiad workout routine involved jogs on the beach with her dogs, walking them frequently, and taking them for a run alongside her bike.

Whether you’re training for the Olympics or just keeping yourself fit and healthy, it’s easy to include your dogs in your fitness routine – and they’ll love the extra time they get to spend with you!
