Deep fried Fritos are very high in fat. In fact, over half of the calories come from fat. For example, in a 28-gram serving, 10 grams of it is pure unhealthy fat. You don’t want your beloved pet dog eating that!

Sure, you can feed your dog a few Fritos. You won’t see negative effects but, honestly though, you shouldn’t give more than a bit. This is one of the worst junk foods and, at the very least, it could upset your buddy’s stomach.

Can I Give My Dog Fritos? Answer: Not Recommended

They won’t provide any nutrients. In fact, they are not healthy at all and it’s a bad feeding habit.

Do not give in to the mentality that reasons: if it doesn’t do them any noticeable harm, why not! There are far better things to give your dog than junk food like Fritos. Pick up a quality organic canine treat instead. You can give those to your best buddy when they beg for things you’re eating and not feel guilty. This way you are being nice without having to share your Fritos.

Corn with Fat and Oil

There are 3 main ingredients in Fritos. One of those is oil and you can be sure they are not using a heart healthy oil either. It’s most likely the cheapest industrial type possible and one which can also deliver just the right taste.

Another aspect of this junk food is processed corn, which dogs have no business eating. Finally, they certainly don’t need excessive amounts of salt in their diets. As you can see, Fritos are pretty much a terrible food choice for a dog.

The High Salt Consequences

Too much salt in your dog’s diet can lead to a host of problems. These include vomiting and diarrhea. If your dog got into a bag of Fritos, and ate all of them before you could stop them, you may have some cleaning up to do fairly soon. Consult with your vet if they ate a ridiculous amount. In the most extreme cases, eating too much salt can be fatal.

Fritos are Really Inappropriate

While debatable, dogs are generally carnivores. Feeding them a crunchy snack made out of corn, oil, and salt doesn’t really make sense. They are built to eat and digest meat and protein-based foods. Fritos are junk food by every stretch of the imagination.

Humans can handle reasonable portions of junk food, once in a while, as long as it’s in moderation. But since pet dogs usually eat a very specific diet, like 99% of the time, their system is simply not used to the occasional anomaly. This is especially true for junk foods like Fritos.

Better Feeding Ideas for Dogs

If you don’t have any treats handy, and your dog is bugging for a Frito, try giving them some individual pieces of their dry kibble. That way they are getting something that’s also crunchy, and they won’t feel left out of the snacking fun.

Better yet, have them perform a trick in order to get that special treat. This way they won’t develop the habit of expecting to eat with you. Fritos have likely re-enforced bad begging behaviors in many dogs.

Conclusion on Fritos

No Fritos for Fido. Stick to a diet of quality dog food with an occasional healthy canine snack. It is certainly possible a Frito here, and a few more there, can cause digestive problems. Upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea are the forms of defense dogs use to purge themselves. Cut out the Fritos and it’s one less thing you need to worry about!
