While most people are hunkered down in the midst of the historic blizzard that’s hit the east coast, one dog was left to fend for himself in the elements. Apparently the Pittie’s former owner decided that the late-January day, with the temperature and wind chill dipping far below freezing, was the best time to abandon the dog. He’d been taken to the Parsippany Animal Control Shelter in New Jersey, but not brought inside- he was tied to the gate. His food, a toy, and water were next to him, but the water bowl had been sitting out long enough to freeze in the frigid weather.

Luckily, this sweet boy was found before this story turned into a tragedy! Officer J Williams discovered the tethered dog and promptly let him into the back seat of his car (we’re thinking that the heat was cranked up!). From there, the relieved pooch was quick to give his rescuer lots of kisses!

On January 18th, the Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter Facebook page posted a plea for information, reading:

Found dog – abandoned at the Parsippany Animal Shelter! This poor dog was left tied to our gate this morning between 9 and 10am. He was left with his food, a bowl of water that was frozen solid, and a toy. Does anyone recognize him? He has a black collar, red leash, is not neutered, and is not microchipped. Any information please call (973) 263-7083

The Pittie has since been brought into the safety and warmth of the animal shelter, with the above post being shared over 1,500 times on Facebook, and the story being told by multiple news outlets.

Let’s hope that this pup’s original owner is found and charged. In the meantime, we’re sure that the cold Pittie with the warm heart will soon find his forever home. And special thanks to Officer J Williams for saving the day. New owners, be warned: you may be subject to lots of happy, sloppy kisses!
