There are many different types of dog brushes, and it can be difficult to tell which one will best meet your dog’s needs. The truth is, your dog’s coat may actually require more than one type of brush. As far as quality goes, The Pet Portal Slicker Brush for dogs is pretty similar to other products on the market. The feature that makes it stick out is the self-cleaning button that pulls the bristles into the head of the brush, removing all the collected hair and debris.

You can find other brushes (of all types) with this feature, but they don’t all offer it. You’ll pay a few dollars more, but this is a very convenient feature that saves time and your fingers.

The wire bristles are spiky and will poke into your fingers if you have to remove the hair yourself.

My second favorite thing about The Pet Portal Slicker Brush for dogs is that it’s perfect for a multi-pet family. It can be used on dogs or cats, and I also found out that it works well on rabbits!

As you’ll see in my video review, this brush works well on our chocolate Saddie, and she really enjoys being brushed with it. The wire bristles are firm, but they don’t cut into her skin or cause her any pain.

Personally, I prefer to use slicker brushes like this one on dogs with long, thin hair. I don’t mean the coat is thin, but the individual hairs are thin as opposed to more coarse hairs that can be found on wiry coated dogs.
