It was more than a decade ago when Tracy Dove says her backyard was broken into and her 1-year old German Short-haired Pointer, Charlie, was stolen from her North Alabama home.

After an exhaustive search for their four-legged family member and many, many years without him, Tracy accepted that she’d never see her boy again – but she continued to keep Charlie’s microchip registration current nonetheless.

Last week, a visibly sick German Short-haired Pointer was found on the steps of a Brewton, Alabama church. Rescuers took the senior dog, who had a large cancerous tumor on his chest, to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Shockingly, when the veterinarian scanned the dog for a microchip, they discovered it was Charlie, the Pointer who had been missing from his family for the past 10 years.

Tracy Dove was understandably speechless to learn that Charlie had been found after all these years, but she still considers the dog, who, today, looks dramatically different than the puppy she’d last seen a decade ago, her family.

Charlie is currently undergoing some tests to determine just how serious his health issues are. Dove says she’ll most likely have the tumor removed and is looking forward to making his last years the very best possible.
