No stranger to dog rescue, the country star and her hubby, fellow country crooner Blake Shelton, share their Oklahoma home with 6 rescue dogs lucky enough to wander onto their property and into their lives. But, Lambert’s dedication to dog rescue certainly doesn’t end there! Through the non-profit organization, MuttNation Foundation, that she started in 2009, Miranda Lambert is directly involved in building animal shelters, increasing pet adoption and rescue, encouraging responsible pet ownership, rehabilitating sick or unsocialized animals, funding spay and neuter programs, reducing euthanasia of adoptable dogs, and training dogs for therapy and dogs-in-prison programs.

And, her dedication to helping dogs doesn’t end there! On Tuesday, Lambert rescued an abandoned puppy that had been left abandoned, with a bed and food, alongside the highway. She announced to fans via Twitter, “I just picked this up on the west side of Tishomingo on hwy 22. Please contact Tish animal shelter if he is yours.”
“He was in the middle of the hwy with his food bowl and bed,” she Tweeted, along with a photo of the darling dog. “If it wasn’t an accident someone is really sick.”
Lambert, 29, is now caring for the lost pup until he finds a new loving home. “I’m calling him ‘Pistol Andy’ in honor of the [Pistol Annies] record [Annie Up] being announced today!” she Tweeted to fans.
Our fingers and paws are crossed for little Andy, in hopes that he finds a loving home as wonderful as the one Miranda is giving him in the meantime. And, to Miranda Lambert – you’re a true hero!
