Dog Backpack or Carrier Sling

An easy way to tote your small breed dog around is something that every dog owner needs, whether you’re taking a trip to the vet, the park, or whatever destination you and your pet have in mind. The most common way to carry dogs and cats involve pet carriers, but aside from the traditional bulky kennel or cage, pet parents also have a choice of doggy backpacks and dog slings. But which one is a better choice, a dog carrier backpack or a dog carrier sling? It’s really just a matter of your own personal preference.

Backpack carriers for dogs and dog slings each have their pros and cons, and whether or not either is the right fit for your Fido depends on your pet’s size and his or her needs. No matter which device you choose, both dog backpack carriers and slings are good exclusively for small and toy breeds. In fact, most are only rated to carry pets only between 8-15 pounds.

Similarly to dog strollers, some pet owners oftentimes find these dog products confusing. But simply imagine a backpack carrier or a sling that mothers use to tote their infant babies around in – it’s the same idea, only for your fur babies dogs and cats.

This is the primary reason for the weight limit on these dog slings and backpacks being so low. Your pet is either hanging off your shoulders and back or off your side, and too much weight would be uncomfortable for you and likely do damage to your body. Not to mention, a chocolate lab probably wouldn’t be very comfortable in a dog sling.
