3 Things your dachshund loves more than anything

Dachshunds are adorable dogs that fill our lives with joy. Anyone who owns a Doxie is obsessed with them. (Hello – who wouldn’t be obsessed about a dog that can run in a “wiener race”?) With all they bring into our lives, it’s no wonder we try to enrich their lives as much as possible. But what does your Doxie really love? While all dogs have their own personalities, including likes and dislikes, there are a few things that most Dachshunds really enjoy. The following are 3 things your Dachshund may love more than anything.

#1 – Digging

While this may not be something you are thrilled about, Dachshunds love to dig! It releases pent-up energy, unearths new smells, and is part of their hunting instinct. You can give your Doxie a doggy sandbox with hidden treats to keep him busy and out of your plants. He would be especially happy to participate in barn hunts and Earthdog competitions.

#2 – Barking

While this is probably not something you want to let your Doxie do, they love to bark. Known for being alert barkers, many owners find it hard to quiet them down once they start making noise. Putting it on cue can sometimes help, then it can be used as a reward: cue them for another behavior and when they do it, cue them to bark.

#3 – Eating

While almost all dogs like food (it’s why positive reinforcement training works well), Dachshunds are definitely “food hounds.” They will eat and eat and eat some more. This makes them prone to obesity. But it also means that an extra treat once in a while is great way to show your Doxie some love.
