New dna test traces exact origin of dogs as we know them
Ever wonder about the origin of our pet dog? In a recent study being conducted, co-author Laura Shannon, Post Doctorate Research Associate from Cornell University, revealed some interesting findings based on the data gathered from about 5000+ sample dog DNA from across the globe. Ms Shannon said that most likely dogs originated from Central Asia about 15,000 to 30,000 years ago. Dogs came from domesticated grey wolves from Central Asia.

DNA as a way to determine origin has been used before but never in the scale conducted by this study and collection of sample DNA came from breed dogs and village dogs as well. This study is the first to generate Big Data to better understand the canine gene. Collecting DNA from such a large sample was done by a collaboration of many who sometimes would just show up with a roast beef sandwich for the dogs to be able to get the DNA sample.
