Do you remember the tiny poodle that was tied to a fence and left to die this past June 2015 in Miami, Florida?

When he was found, he was just skin and bones. He was named Sam and taken in by the Florida Yorkie Rescue. A rep for them said it was “the worst case of animal abuse they had ever seen.”

Sam had infected eyes, was emaciated, dehydrated, and sun burned. The rescue wasn’t even sure he would survive.

They found over 250 ticks on his body, a tumor and an enlarged spleen, and a Grade Two Heart Murmur.

“Upon arrival, Sam’s eyes were empty,” the Florida Yorkie Rescue site says. “He had lost all hope that someone would come to help him.”

We wrote about him and asked our wonderful dogsguru.ru readers (YOU!) to help – and boy did you come through!

“Our bills for Sam are over $5,000.00 now that we added them all up,” Kit DeRoche, Founder/President of Florida Yorkie Rescue told dogsguru.ru. “Hopefully the next step is having his eyes checked to see if he is a candidate for cataract surgery. He has glaucoma in one eye but the other one might be salvageable.”

Sam has not been adopted.

“It seems he may be a permanent foster child due to his senior age,” DeRoche says. “It is so hard to find loving homes for the old dogs. He has bouts of anemia from time to time and he sleeps a great deal. He has been neutered, had his teeth cleaned and also had a tumor removed from his rectum.”

But they are not too concerned, he has captured their hearts and souls.

“We have never been so moved by any dog as we have been with Sam,” she adds. “He now has fans worldwide and so many ask about him on a daily basis, requesting updates and photos.”

They still need to raise money for his upcoming surgery and continued to care. we are hoping to raise enough money to have his cataract surgery and for his continued care while in foster care, which like I said may well end up being permanent. You can make donations for Sam here.

Again, the Florida Yorkie Rescue wants to THANK YOU for all your help thus far – Sam is doing well because of you!

All of us at dogsguru.ru also thank you – making a difference is why we do what do and to be part of it is a privilege and humbling.
