Treating puppy worms the right way is really important because not only can do they make your puppy feel awful & uncomfortable, they can also make him very sick!

Many pups are born with Roundworms (passed onto themin their momma`s bloodstream or milk), and several other types of wormsare transmitted by contact with external parasites.

A few intestinal worms aren`t something to panic about as in theshort term they`re not going to do any real harm, BUT they do need to betreated to prevent complications or illness.

There are wormmedications available over-the-counter, generally in large pet stores, but it can be `hit and miss` to useone of these.

This is because unless you`re absolutely certain what type of worm your puppy has,you could be targeting the wrong ones.

Most vets will routinely treat a puppy for dog worms at the same time as giving him his puppy vaccinations.

It`snot a `one-off` treatment either, generally the dewormer will need tobe given 3 times, at 2 or 3 week intervals.

This is to make sure thatthe worms in ALL stages of development are eradicated properly.

Afterthis, unless your pup shows symptoms of a new worm infestation, he willusually only need to be treated once a year, when he gets his annualvaccination booster shots.

Although not, strictly speaking, a method of treating puppy worms, prevention is key to keeping your puppy safe from all sorts of parasites.

Because worms can be spread by contact with fleas and mosquitoes,it`s very important to protect your puppy from these annoying littlebugs.

Using a reliable and safe flea/tick medication on a monthly basis is the best way to make sure these biting critters don`t set up home on your little one!

Preventing heartworms isn`t just important, it`s absolutely critical because these worms can kill a pup or dog quite easily and by the time symptoms of an infestation show up the pet is already very sick.

Some types of puppy worms are picked up by your puppy from the soil, or from eating the feces of infected animals.
