Online university awards mba to a dog
Menu
Meet Peter Smith. Peter has 15 years of experience in the field of business administration and is a recent MBA graduate of an online university that claims to provide outstanding education with exacting standards and stringent criteria.
Oh yeah, Pete, as he’s known by his friends, is a dog.
Pete was recently awarded an MBA by the American University of London after the BBC network sought to disprove the validity of their MBA program. Despite claims by the online university that they are not a bogus organization, BBC’s Newsnight successfully enrolled Pete, a dog, using a ficticious resume and application. Further, Pete was awarded his MBA simply by paying for the course, without doing a single bit of coursework.
As part of their application process, the AUOL requires photocopies of previous qualifications and a photograph of the applicant. BBC simply submitted Pete’s application (along with the $7,300 tuition) and was awarded an MBA about two weeks later, despite the omissions.
While the university presents itself as an American or London based college, they are actually located in the Caribbean.

What’s more, the BBC investigation located “hundreds of senior executives” in corporations around the world who have received degrees from the so-called university.
The “University” also awards bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees in fields including law, education, marketing, IT, and more.
In 5 U.S. states, it is illegal to apply for a job using credentials from AUOL. (But what about those other 45 states? Yikes!)
