How can you help the pit bulls of montreal?

Montreal’s controversial pit bull ban has dog lovers scrambling to save the several hundred dogs facing death beginning Monday, October 3 when the ban takes effect.

The newly passed law places a ban on any new “pit bull type” dogs in the city and places heavy restrictions on those already living there. Under the new law, any of the now-banned breeds – this includes American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and any dog mixed with or sharing certain physical characteristics with a banned breed- still in shelters next week when the law takes effect will be euthanized.

So, how can you help?

First, join hundreds of thousands of dog lovers in signing a petition to have the ban repealed. Signing the petition only takes a few seconds and petitions have resulted in positive change in the past.

Second, start sending emails to Montreal government officials. We must be a voice for the dogs of Montreal. Either write an email in your own words asking for the ban to be repealed or, feel free to use one of these sample emails:

1. Sample letter about boycotting travel to Montreal, very short, simple and to the point. Available in English and French. https://justice-for-bullies.myshopify.com/blogs/news/sample-boycott-message

2. Sample letter that focuses on facts, science and proven methods regarding dog bites and breed specific legislation. Third, if you are able to physically help (transport, rescue transfers, adoption outside of Quebec, etc), please contact Tammie Benoit at [email protected]

Fourth, make a donation to the Montreal SPCA. In addition to campaigning heavily in the fight against breed-specific legislation, the Montreal SPCA have launched a lawsuit against the city of Montreal in hopes of having the newly passed bylaw declared illegal. They filed an emergency injunction to suspend the law from taking effect on Monday, buying much-needed time for the hundreds, maybe thousands of dogs facing euthanasia if they don’t make it out of the city in time.

Please share. Comment below when you’ve done your part to help save Montreal’s dogs.

Together we CAN beat this!
