5 Best dog baths & pet grooming tubs for home groomers

For many pet parents, grooming our dogs is a fun experience, but it can also be a challenge. There’s always the potential for messiness either during the dog bathing process, dog nail clipping process, or any other ways that dogs can make a mess. We as pet owners know that dogs, if anything, are fantastic at causing messes. Our puppies are like adorable, furry wrecking balls, which is why some of us are interested in acquiring one of these best dog baths and improve our dog grooming experiences, and dog bathing process in particular.

Best Dog Baths for Home Groomers
A popular dog bath.

During the bathing process of dog grooming, there is a lot going on: you have to contend with calming your dog down, shampooing and conditioning him or her, and then rinsing them off. All of this tends to take place in a controlled environment so as to minimize the mess that is caused by your dog’s rambunctiousness. Bath time is exciting for a lot of dogs, but many of them aren’t fond of it either. They splash and run around, so minimizing the mess is something that all dog owners wish for, and a good doggy bath can do that.

Below we’re taking a look at the top best dog baths that have been rated by professional groomers as well as those grooming dogs at home. Here’s a list of these five options, but feel free to scroll down for more details about every one of these doggy baths.

What are dog baths and why do we need them?

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubWhen you decide where to bathe your dog, a few locations might spring to mind. You may decide to use your own bathtub or shower, or you can choose to pick another, less mess-prone area. Dog baths are bathtubs that you can use to bathe your dog in, replacing your own tub and shower. Some pet owners aren’t too keen on combining their dog’s bath with their own, and that’s understandable.

These dog washtubs are usually made of plastic or some absorbent material that prevents slippage and cleans easily. You can take these best dog baths and hook them up to a hose in your garage or the location of your choosing. These baths for dogs provide an easy-to-access space for bathing your canine.

Dog baths are convenient for owners as well. Many are elevated and therefore make it easier on our backs (no one wants to keep having to bend over to clean their dog—that’s strenuous). We can clean our dogs at a reasonable height, making it easier for everyone involved. They also are mess-free and give your Fido his or her own space that they can associate with dog bathing time.

My Australian Shephard, Walter, knew that whenever he saw the “Big Blue Tub,” that meant that it was time for a bath. We always made sure to make bath time enjoyable for him—he’d get treats and toys—so the Big Blue Tub became a positive object for him and one that made him happy. After bath time, dog baths are usually very easy to store—you can just pop them wherever is convenient and use them the next time with no problem.

The below list of best dog baths contains five of the top choices of puppy washtubs for home pet groomers. All have been well-reviewed by other dog owners who purchased these baths for dogs and have features that all dog owners will find useful. Take a look!

TOP 5 Best Dog Baths for Home Groomers
Make the process of bathing your dog easy and pleasant

1 Master Equipment Poly Pro Lift Grooming Tub

Master Equipment Poly Pro Lift Grooming TubOVERVIEW: Made in China (like everything else today), this dog bath is great for heavy-duty grooming. Master Equipment Poly Pro Lift Grooming Tub measures 59 x 35.5 x 31.5 inches and weighs a little less than 300 pounds.

It also contains an electric lift, which makes it optimal for lifting heavy dogs without having to use manual labor to do so. It’s made of Polypropylene, a material that is durable and easy to clean. The sheer size of the grooming tub indicates its sturdiness and dependability.

  • FEEDBACK: Read other pet owners’ opinion

WHY IS IT AT #1? The Poly Pro Tub is first because of its sheer size and sturdiness. You could probably sail across the Atlantic Ocean in this monster (though we don’t advise that you try it). The polypropylene material is the easiest to maintain and clean and we groomers know how important that is—dogs can get super messy and grooming can be a splash fest.

PROS: Master Equipment Poly Pro Lift Grooming Tub is great for groomers who work at home and are serious about their grooming. Consider this an investment. The tub’s high dimensions prevent even the largest dog from easily being able to catapult him or herself out of the tub and run amuck. Professional groomers and boarders alike commented their satisfaction with the tub’s quality and durability.

The electric lift is also something that shouldn’t be taken for granted, as it helps pet owners and groomers who otherwise would have to bend down and do all the cleaning there themselves, straining their back (and their patience). It works for large and small dogs. If your dog finds him or herself a little afraid of the lift (some dogs that aren’t used to them and can get nervous around the equipment), try coaxing him or her onto the lift with treats and toys. Once they get used to it, it shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubCONS: This tub is a little expensive and it does require adequate space to house it. Starting with the first concern, the expensiveness can be thought of as an investment. The alternative is taking your dog to the groomer’s, and that adds up after a while. If you’re really serious about wanting to give your dog a good grooming at home, you’ll need high-quality products that will work as hard as you do.

Think of the expensive as an investment opportunity. The dimensions are not set up for smaller locations, however, so be prepared to house this in the garage or basement. Making sure you have the right housing conditions for this machine is a must before purchasing.

2 Flying Pig Grooming 38″ Stainless Steel Pet Bathing Tub

Flying Pig Grooming 38OVERVIEW: This hilariously named bath tub is elevated and measures 38 inches long, 26 inches wide, and 38 inches tall (approximately 3 ft. by 2 ft. by 3 ft.). The construction of Flying Pig Pet Grooming Bath Tub is solid, rust-proof 16-gauge stainless steel and contains a backsplash and sidesplash that are both removable if need be.

Also included are a faucet hose, sprayer hose, shampoo rack, green rubber mat to reduce the likeliness of slipping, and restraints to keep your dog in place. There is also a drain in the center that is adaptable to any plumbing configuration and the legs are adjustable to the height you want.

  • FEEDBACK: Read other pet owners’ opinion

WHY IS IT AT #2? We placed Flying Pig Pet Grooming Bath Tub as second, not because it’s of a lesser quality than the first, but because it doesn’t contain a feature that the first-place tub has- namely, an electric lift. Flying Pig Pet Grooming Bath Tub is adjustable manually, but the electric lift is likely more convenient for owners who are in need of a little back support or who have big dogs that are difficult to get on the lift themselves. Also, the dimensions are smaller so owners with large-breed dogs might find that their pup doesn’t fit.

PROS: The construction of this lift in particular is versatile, as it contains removable backsplashes and sidesplashes that prevent water from getting everywhere while also making it convenient for you to use.

The sprayer of Flying Pig Pet Grooming Bath Tub, customers said, was also quite powerful and the central drain is very easy to use with basically any type of plumbing system that you have. It sits high off the ground as well, so if you’re taller, this table will actually fit you. The green floor-mat also adds a lot in the way of sturdiness- your pet won’t risk falling and injuring him/herself with this table.

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubCONS: This table does have its downsides. For one, the table is sized only to fit smaller dogs, so owners or groomers that care for larger dogs are going to have an issue with them and might be better off looking at the first table on our list.

Also, the table is expensive at around $1,000, and that was viewed to be a costly expense by many people who considered purchasing this but didn’t. A customer also voiced a concern with a manufacturer issue concerning the bolts, but said that Flying Pig handled it right away and it wasn’t a detriment to their experience.

Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “My wife loved the tub for her grooming business. However, there were a couple of manufacturer defects (quality control) issues that were experienced. First, some of the seams of the tub were not completely welded, resulting in pinhole leaks. Second, the mat for the tub was not that was pictured in the…”

3 Master Equipment Everyday Pro Tub for Pets

Master Equipment Everyday Pro Tub for PetsOVERVIEW: Master Equipment Everyday Pro Tub for Pets is made with steel that is zinc-plated, powder-coated, and 16-gauge. The bottom of the tub is also made with rust resistant steel and it is perfect for home groomers or even groomers with salons that need outfitting.

The tub measures 49.8 x 28 x 20 inches and weighs approximately 140 pounds. There is a pre-drilled drainage hole and restraint bolts that work in holding a grooming loop to secure your pet. It works for any size of dog.

  • FEEDBACK: Read other pet owners’ opinion

WHY IS IT AT #3? We chose to put Master Equipment Everyday Pro Tub for Pets third because it was a little lower than the others and didn’t have the electric lift that our first choice had. The backsplash is situated high, but the rest of the walls of the tub are low enough that there’s a chance of splashing if your dog gets half a mind to start shaking.

PROS: Master Equipment Everyday Pro Tub for Pets is constructed of extremely durable, easy-to-clean material that won’t rust or become sullied. So many tubs that come in contact with water, when designed with pets in mind, end up rusting on the bottom or being affected negatively by the soaps and shampoos that are used.

By purchasing a quality table such as this, you can make sure that that deterioration is curbed and won’t become an issue requiring you to replace or refurbish the tub you’ve purchased. Also, the height of the backsplash is high enough to prevent any possible messes coming from that area, though you should be aware that the backsplash is only on one side. The restraint-hooks are convenient, as many owners with dogs that like to run around during grooming know, and help to make grooming safe and convenient for everyone involved. Lastly, the height is low on the table, but if you’re someone who isn’t super-tall and doesn’t need that much height, it’s good for you.

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubCONS: The length of the table makes it workable for any size dog, but the width isn’t optimal for mammoth dogs (Tibetan Mastiffs, for example) that might need to do a little extra squeezing in there.

The width is only a little over two feet, so be aware that if your dog is a monster, he or she might struggle fitting in to the grooming area. Also, the coordinating overhead cabin is sold separately, which some groomers found to be inconvenient.

4 Booster Bath Elevated Doggy Bath

Booster Bath Elevated Doggy BathOVERVIEW: This bath is portable and lightweight. Booster Bath Elevated Dog Bath comes in two pieces and snaps together for easy construction. Its dimensions are 16 inches wide by 33 inches long (by 10 inches deep) and it weighs around 22 pounds.

It contains a drainage hose and a faucet that hooks up to any exterior plumbing areas. There is a six month financing option with this dog bath, and it’s much less expensive than the other three that were listed (it’s 189.00). The drain hose is long and works with many different plumbing situations.

  • FEEDBACK: Read other pet owners’ opinion

WHY IS IT AT #4? This is fourth because although it is still high-quality, it’s of a lesser caliber than the other three we listed. Booster Bath Elevated Dog Bath is made of plastic and not stainless steel and it’s for home groomers, though the durability might not hold up when compared to the stainless steel, monster tubs we just listed. For the price, however, it is a fantastic purchase.

PROS: Booster Bath Elevated Dog Bath is portable and easy to use, which makes it a big seller among groomers that aren’t even seriously into the whole grooming idea. It also snaps together and is convenient (think of this as opposed to the huge, heavy rolling tubs that were also seen). It’s excellent for owners who have space constraints.

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubIt’s very sturdy and the price is fantastic. Groomers with multiple dogs commented that it held up well through each session and wasn’t intimidating for their dogs to use. It can hold dogs that are up to 100 pounds as well, as many of the customers noted. Even though it may seem as though it would crumble under that much weight, the table held up quite well against the weight of even multiple dogs. One a less directly tub-related side, many customers also were impressed at the quality of customer service that came from Booster Bath. The shipping was quick, too.

CONS: Several customers commented that the instructions combined with this bath were unclear and, as one noted, “even comparable to IKEA.” The direction issues were echoed by several other customers who found them vague and confusing. If that’s the case, the customer service provided by Booster Bath can certainly help you sort that out, as they were generally well-reviewed.

Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “Love this dog bath we have 2 large great Danes and bathing them used to be a massive mess everywhere. We put this tub in the basement by the utility sink it set up well and easily. I had concerns as our dogs are very large 12# plus, they have no difficulty climbing in and don’t mind bath time anymore…”

5 New Booster Bath Kit for Dogs

New Booster Bath Kit for DogsOVERVIEW: This dog bath has measurements that work for smaller dogs, though the sizes range. Mini Booster Bath for Dogs has a 33 inch length, 17 inch width, and ten inch depth. The bath is elevated and 360-degree accessible, making for an easy grooming experience.

The drain hose is long enough that you can easily direct the drainage where you want it to go with no issue. The weight capacity is 75 pounds, so this table is useful for smaller breeds such as Cocker Spaniels, Corgis, Scottish Terriers, Schnauzer French Bulldogs, and more. It comes in two pieces that snap together for quick portability and there is a five year warranty. It’s also made in the USA.

  • FEEDBACK: Read other pet owners’ opinion

WHY IS IT AT #5? Mini Booster Bath for Dogs is last because of the size restriction. It can’t accommodate the larger dogs the way the other tubs can. However, if you’re a groomer who works with small dogs and doesn’t do that much heavy cleaning, this tub will be great for you. It’s the “mini” accompaniment to the Booster Bath listed at #4.

PROS: The convenience of Mini Booster Bath for Dogs (as with all Booster Bath products) is what makes one of the greatest tubs you can buy right now. It’s easy to use and easy to store, and the height variability will make sure that your back is spared from any bending over.

The no-slip bottom of the tub also keeps your pet secure and there is a handy soap holder on the side of the tub. The hose is one of the best features about this tub, as it is long enough to allow you to direct drainage wherever you need to with no problem. This keeps you dry during bath time and reduces mess by a lot.

Best Dog Bath and Pet Grooming TubCONS: Obviously, the size is a con. Most of us don’t own tiny breeds (or if we do, that’s not the only type of dog we need to bath), so the versatility of this is called into question when it comes to what can and cannot be bathed.

Customers also commented that this was not for professional use because it wasn’t up to the same caliber that professional grooming tables (as listed above) are. It’s sturdy and stable, but it should be kept in the setting that it is appropriate for: at home use.

Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “The Booster Bath is everything it’s advertised to be. It is sturdy and stable, though the walls of the tub *will* bend if a large dog leans against it. It’s very convenient for those of us with large dogs and who live in climates that can be inconvenient to be hauling large dogs to get bathed (especially in your car…”

Best Dog Baths for Home Groomers

How to choose the best of the best dog baths?

Choosing the best dog bath comes down to several features, including those of you and your dog. A lot of it has to do with both of your conveniences. If you have back problems (or don’t want to bend down), choosing a dog bath that is elevated will probably be the best decision for you. A dog bath that isn’t elevated or can’t be put up higher might cause you to have discomfort, which your dog will pick up on and won’t be happy about. Your mood determines the mood of bath time. If you’re in pain and cranky, your dog will become less enthused about bathing. So, think of yourself when choosing a dog bath.

When choosing the best dog bath, you need to have a good read on your living conditions and where you’re going to put the bath. If you have a garage and a hose, you might want to choose a bath that has a drain and can be hooked up to the hose—you want to use your circumstances to make bath time more convenient and efficient. If you don’t have much storage space, choose a pet bath that is easy to store and workable with the space you have.

Another factor that should determine your choice of dog bath is your dog’s size. You don’t want your dog to feel too cramped in the bath because, in addition to looking ridiculous, that will make him or her harder to clean than if they had space to stretch out and relax in. Feeling cloistered can make your dog anxious and might induce them to bolt during the grooming. Know the product’s dimensions and your dog’s size so that you have a clear picture of what you’re working with.

Best dog baths that are easy-to-clean are high quality. If a dog bath doesn’t have an easy to clean feature, you might be in for a struggle every time it’s bath time. Cleaning your grooming equipment properly is extremely imperative for every groomer, and disinfection of dog baths is no exception. Choose a dog bath that is made of plastic, metal, or another washable composition. Otherwise, bacteria and dirt might build up and that can create an unsanitary washing environment for you and your dog (and just a general pain).

Baths for dogs that are easy-to-clean and fit the parameters of your home and dog will pay off the most when it comes time for grooming. Home groomers need to have the top equipment and products in order to make sure that their job is done as efficiently and excellently as possible. We feel that the list of dog baths we’ve given you will enable you to make the best choice possible for your dog and your burgeoning grooming hobby. Whichever you choose, as long as it is a bath your dog will feel comfortable and safe it, it will work out just fine. Happy grooming!
