Mitchel Craddock of Vicksburg, Michigan was celebrating his bachelor party with his friends when the party took an unexpected turn. While cooking up some delicious bacon one morning in their cabin in the Tennessee woodlands, a dog showed up at the front door. The pooch wouldn’t come inside, but she sat right at the entrance looking at them in the house. Obviously, she was hungry and knew where to find the good food.

All eight guests of the bachelor party were fond of the dog and enjoyed her presence. “She was such a sweet dog that once we gained her trust, she was happy to see us, wagging her tail — just a big sweetheart,” Craddock told KAKE. One thing they had all noticed, however, was that this dog had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. She seemed a bit malnourished and wasn’t producing any more milk, so it was likely she was dehydrated.

After spending more time with her, the group discovered that this mother dog was protecting a spot in the woods. Sure enough – they found her puppies there. She had seven youngsters she’d been caring for. “We set each pup individually down in front of her and she nuzzled their faces and she checked out the pups and to the person holding them, she gave the look of, ‘It’s OK, I trust you,’” Craddock said.
All of the puppies look well cared for, despite needing a bath to get rid of dirt and fleas. They were otherwise very healthy and it appears their mother gave them everything she had to offer. Even better, all seven of the puppies and their mother were adopted by the groom and his groomsmen! They all even live within a 5-mile radius of each other.

The puppies changed the plans of the bachelor party a bit, but Craddock and his groomsmen didn’t seem to mind. “We pooled a bunch of money to buy food and beer. After the third day, our beer fund turned into puppy food fund,” he said. He says his now-wife, Kristen, was excited for him to come home with a new puppy. “I proposed to her with our chocolate lab and now it’s our joke that for any of our big life events, we’ll get a dog,” Craddock said. We certainly hope that’s the case!
