Video: Top 5 Mistakes Most Business Owners Make and How To Fix Them - Run A Successful Business!
Boxers are a loving, happy breed, which makes them a wonderful family pet. But there are definitely things that can make your life easier (or harder!) when it comes to caring for a Boxer that’s sharing your home. In regards to training and health, there are things that are sometimes overlooked and can cause your dog to not be as well-behaved or as healthy as you would like. The following are 5 mistakes that Boxers owners sometimes make.

#1 – No Set Rules
Boxers, like all dogs, are habitual creatures, meaning they do best with a consistent routine and rules. If you keep changing them – for instance, he is allowed on the couch one month and not allowed on it the next – your dog will end up confused. Some even shut down and stop trying if they always gets things wrong. Your Boxer will do better with a set routine and rules he can learn and follow.
#2- Not Watching For Genetic Disorders
Boxers have quite a few genetic disorders that an owner should know enough about to recognize the symptoms early. Some, like thyroid disease, hip dysplasia, and cardiomyopathy, can be tested for. The latter one is the most common cause of sudden/unexpected death in Boxers, regardless of age. A test can be done to look for the abnormal gene that causes it. Aortic/Subaoritic Valvular Stenois (AS/SAS) is another heart condition that plagues Boxers. It cannot be tested for, but you can also learn the symptoms. The quicker you catch any of these, the better.
#3 – Too Much Rough Play
Boxers are an exuberant breed! They love to play hard and we all know they get their name from the way they use those front paws – like a real boxer. It can be fun to play with our Boxers in a rough and tumble way, especially when they are young. But this can make them the type of dog that tries to roughhouse with everyone, including small children and elderly visitors. Make sure your Boxer learns self-control as well as play so he can be well-mannered when needed.
#4 – Giving Your Boxer Human Medications Without A Vet’s Approval
This can result in a hefty vet bill and even the loss of your Boxer. In fact, over-the-counter human medications is number 1 in the ASPCA’s top list of toxins, and human prescription medications is number 2, according to cases handled by their Animal Poison Control Center. While many of these are accidental poisonings, it’s important to remember that human medication is dangerous to your Boxer and you should not be giving it her unless directed by a vet.
#5 – Not Enough Exercise
Have we mentioned that Boxers have energy?? This breed does best when they get a lot of exercise – and not just physical. They are intelligent and require both mental and physical stimulation daily. If you don’t keep them occupied, they will most likely find something to do, like chewing your shoes or teaching themselves how to get into your food cupboards.
