When Alex Wildee of Denver, Colorado first saw Hannah – a 2-year-old Catahoula Mix – on Petfinder, something about her just clicked. She could not get her sweet, silly face out of her head. She told KHOU News:
“Her spots, blue eyes, and bat ears jumped out at me, she called to my heart,”
After e-mailing back and forth with the shelter, Wildee was convinced that Hannah would make the perfect addition to her family. There was just one problem: the shelter caring for Hannah was located in Killeen, Texas.
“Her being from Texas pulled on my heart strings all the more because Jersey, my Catahoula mix, is also originally from Texas.”
Wildee searched the Denver area for a dog to adopt, but none gave her that instant feeling of kismet that she had when first seeing Hannah. A few weeks later a staff member at Texas Humane Heroes called to let her know that no one else had shown any interest in adopting Hannah.
“I was determined. I sponsored her adoption fee the next Thursday, switched shifts with my morning manager on Friday so I could be off by 1 p.m., loaded up the car and started driving!”

When they finally met after Wildee’s 900 mile journey, it was clear that Wildee’s impulse had been correct – they were meant to be together. Even Jersey, who came along for the ride, immediately took to his new sister.
The trio snapped a few road trip pics along the way home to Denver where Hannah (renamed Alaska) will live out her happily ever after with the Wildee family.
What could be better than a deserving dog in need finding the perfect loving home, no matter the distance? Wishing this wonderful family a long and happy life together!
