Bark to the future!

Happy New Year and ¡prospero año nuevo! Welcome to 2015. In honor of the new year, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past year.

But first, take a moment to reflect on the fact that we’re already halfway through the second decade of the twenty-first century. When I was a kid, this was going to be “The Future,” a time when we would have flying cars, personal robots, hover boards, and world peace. And now, here we are.

We don’t have any of those things, but what I do have is just as amazing.

This year will mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of my arrival in America — illegal, alone, but with a dream. I crossed the border with literally nothing but the clothes on my back. The hundred bucks in his life savings my father gave me to make the trip went to the coyote who brought me over. The rest I had to earn myself.

Christmas of 1990, I was this ambitious kid who spoke no English, but I did speak dog. Fourteen years later, I had my own TV show. Eleven years after that, I really am living the American dream, but I couldn’t have done it without you, my fans.

And there are so many of you! We started 2014 with 4.6 million Facebook fans, and ended it with 7.9 million. On Twitter, I have over 780 thousand followers, and over 270 thousand on Instagram. On YouTube, we’ve had over 4 million views, and the CesarsWay website gets over six million page views per month from all over the world.

I also had the opportunity to meet a lot of you during my 2014 Cesar Millan LIVE tours, which took me to 35 cities in 8 different countries and 9 U.S. states.

The response in Austria and Germany was amazing, and we had to add extra shows because they sold out. It was wonderful to be back in Singapore again, and fantastic to visit China, Croatia, Indonesia, and the Philippines for the first time.

In the U.S., I took my show on the road to Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, and Pennsylvania. In case you’re keeping track, since 2006 I’ve taken Cesar Millan LIVE to 109 cities in 28 countries, 23 U.S. states and 7 Canadian provinces. If I haven’t gotten to yours yet, don’t worry — I will!

That’s a lot of air miles — 32,850 in 2014 alone — but there’s more to come. I already have my first ten U.S. live shows of 2015 scheduled, and will be adding to that list.

Also in 2014, I launched my new TV series on Nat Geo WILD, “Cesar 911,” and it’s been a huge success — the second highest rated show in the network’s history. We’re coming back in February 2015 with all-new episodes.

For me, “Cesar 911” has been a personal success as well. With this show, I wanted to deal with communities and empower people to bring balance and harmony not just to one human-canine relationship, but to everyone those people and dogs come in contact with.

This meant dealing with problem dogs not just in homes, but in workplaces, dog parks, on the walk, and everywhere else that misbehavior was causing issues and conflict.

Right before the premiere of “Cesar 911,” be sure to catch my new TV special, “Viva Las Vegas,” where you’ll have a chance to see my LIVE show, taped at my performance at the Palms Casino Resort.

Of course, all of this is with my bigger mission in mind — uniting the global community to improve the treatment and welfare of animals around the world, and the Cesar Millan Foundation has been very busy giving back in 2014.

One of our greatest moments was in December, when the Foundation participated in an airlift that saved the lives of over six hundred dogs that would have otherwise been killed in shelters, bringing the number of dogs we saved directly during the year to well over eleven hundred. This isn’t even counting the number of lives saved through our promotion of spay and neuter awareness.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, 2014 saw the introduction of all new tools and products to help you have a balanced relationship with your dog, including my newest DVD, “Socialization,” which is the first volume in the series “Essentials of Dog Behavior.” Volume 2 is already in the works for 2015, with more to follow.

2014 was a very busy, very exciting year, but 2015 is going to be even better. The Training Cesar’s Way Clinics and Fundamentals of Dog Behavior and Training I will continue at the Dog Psychology Centers in California and Florida, and we have some nice surprises coming down the line, one of which I’m particularly proud of, although I can’t let the dog out of the bag yet.

Last year was excellent but this year will be even better, and I hope that 2015 brings you the same. We may not have those flying cars or hover boards yet, but we have something better: a single pack, dedicated to the well-being of animals and to bringing balance to our lives with dogs.

That mission takes place one person and one dog at a time, but it is happening all around the world. I would like to thank each and every one of you for being a part of it with me.
