Christmas is when we all spend time with our loved ones, including our furry pals. It’s also the time when many retailers are selling their stock at large discounts, and many pet parents, including myself, have been trying to take advantage of some good deals on dog supplies and best dog food deals.

Dog food deals are everywhere this holiday season but checking for the best price is a tedious task. If you don’t take the time to compare prices before you buy, though, you will probably experience the aggravation of finding the same dog food a little cheaper at a different site while you are looking for something else.

Before you embark on any purchase, make sure you know what healthy dog food really is. There has been research done to find dog food brands that are holistic, FDA approved, human grade, USDA organic and so on. Fortunately for Top Dog Tips readers, I took the time to compare dog food price and found the best of the best deals on dog food. I was doing the research for myself, but then thought some of you guys may find this list useful. These discounted dog food deals are so good we can all afford to stock up.

Best Dog Food Deals This Christmas

Let’s start with the main online retailer, Amazon. Many pet parents including myself find Amazon to be the most trusted store for dog food and dog supplies. This retailer usually provides the best prices on dog food, free and fast shipping (sometimes even same day delivery, and even 2 hour delivery) and many other perks as well as great deals and perks for Amazon Prime subscribers.

Amazon Dog Food Deals (up to 92% off!)

• Amazon.com has some good deals on dog food this Christmas. If you like to give your dog a Taste of the Wild, head over to Amazon for a good deal on a 28-pound bag of Southwest Canyon with Wild Boar. They are selling it for $44.89 per bag. Chewy.com is selling this food for a similar price. These dog foods are grain free and contain lots of good stuff including meat, fruits, vegetables and fish or canola oil. The types of ingredients vary, depending on the formula.

• For instance, Taste of the Wild Southwest Canyon has beef, lamb, fish and wild boar. Wild Pacific Stream Puppy formula (currently at 36% off) contains salmon, ocean fish meal, sweet potatoes, peas and salmon oil. This dog food is not cheap, even on sale, but it is especially good for dogs with skin problems, and it’s one of the best dog foods ever. With Amazon selling it at $10.00 or more off the regular price, this might be just the deal you’ve been waiting for.

• Next, it’s the biggest discount on dog food at Amazon for the most natural dog food out there: Purina Beyond Natural Dry Dog Food is currently sold at 92% off the original price! • Amazon also have really good prices for Diamond dog foods right now, such as Diamond Naturals Dry Food for Adult Dog. Their prices on Diamond food for dogs are about the same as the prices at Chewy.com but Amazon ships orders over $35.00 for free. Diamond dog food is my personal favorite. It is a good, reasonably-priced dog food that my dogs never turned their noses up at. Meat is the #1 ingredient and they have an antioxidant formula that includes fruits, veggies and Omega fatty acids.

• Diamond Dry Adult Maintenance Chicken is a few dollars cheaper at Amazon for a 40-pound bag. They have it on sale for $36.99. Their regular price for this food is $47.74.

Before we move onto other dog supply retailers, Amazon has some best dog food deals for less popular brands that are still worth taking a look with discounts of 30-70% off the original price. Here are just some of them, but make sure to take a look at others yourself:

• The popular Blue Buffalo BLUE Adult Dog Chicken & Brown Rice dog food 6lb bag is now at 71% off the original price, selling for $17! Blue Buffalo has been used by many pet parents for years, and this dog food provides the added protection of BLUE’s exclusive LifeSource® Bits, a precise blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, Wholesome Whole Grains and Healthy Garden Veggies.

• They have 12-can cases of 13.2-ounce cans of Nature’s Recipe Lamb & Rice Stew for $16.98. The regular price for this case is $33.04. I would definitely snap up this dog food deal. I like to mix a little canned food with the kibble to give my dogs the best of both worlds. Lamb and rice dog food is especially good for dogs with food allergies. • Hill’s Science Diet are short on deals, but they have Hill’s Science Diet Adult Dry Dog Food discounted at 31% off and for the price of $10.99 for a 4.5lb bag. This is one of the best dog foods for toy breeds and small dog breeds with a bunch of enhancements for dogs, including Vitamin C + E which help promote a healthy immune function and active lifestyle in dogs.

A few other good Amazon dog food deals include Beneful Dry Dog Food selling at 37% off the original price and for $15.38. They also have Purina Pro Plan Dry Dog Food for $36.99 which is 34% discount, and Stella & Chewy’s Freeze Dried Duck and Goose Dinner for $26.49 for a 15 ounce bag, which is a hefty 55% discount on this dog food brand.

At the time of my research, I couldn’t find any good deals on dog food for some of these retailers, but if you’re reading this article later, then remember to take a look at deals on PetSmart, EntirelyPets and other dog food retailers for more great discounts.

PetSmart has a few good sales on dog food though. There is one small drawback, however. Some of the food sold online must be picked up at the store. They don’t have it in stock to ship to your home. However, you can buy it online then just stop at the store to pick it up. Yes, you will still have to go to the store but you don’t have to find the food and stand in line to pay for it. Just pick it up and go.

• Purina ONE Smartblend adult chicken & rice formula is on sale for $28.99 per 31.1-pound bag. This same formula and size is on sale elsewhere for $32.96 and usually costs $42.99 per bag. You can buy this online at PetSmart but you have to pick it up at the store.

• Authority Small Breed Adult Lamb & Rice and Adult Chicken & Rice are on sale for $31.99 per 34-pound bag. It usually sells for $34.99. This item can be bought online and shipped directly to your home. I think this is a pretty good dog food for only about $1.00 per pound. The first three ingredients are lamb, lamb meal and brown rice or chicken, chicken meal and brown rice.

If you feed your dog Hill’s Science Diet Perfect Weight or Sensitive Stomach dog food, the best deals are at Dog.com this week. In addition to the price cuts, they will give you an extra 20% off if you sign up for Autoship.

Dog.com sell most Hill’s Science Diet formulas at competitive prices but they are offering amazing deals on these two:

• Hill’s Science Diet Perfect Weight dry dog food on sale for $27.29 for a 15-pound bag. This is an incredible deal. The same size bag of this food is on sale at other sites for $34.99 to $45.99. The regular price is about $60.00 per 15-pound bag. I think this is a good food for younger dogs who have trouble maintaining a healthy weight. The first ingredient is chicken, not chicken meal or chicken by-products. That’s the first thing I look for in dog food – actual meat listed as the first ingredient.

• Hill’s Science Diet Sensitive Stomach dry dog food is on sale for $26.99 for a 15.5-pound bag. This is a savings of about $10.00 per bag. Other sites sell this size bag for $32.00 to $45.00. According to customer reviews, this is an excellent food for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Personally, I would be a bit suspicious because the first ingredient is brewer’s rice followed by whole grain corn and corn gluten meal. However, 4- to 5-star ratings and customer reviews stating their dog is thriving on this food would make me tempted to try it if my dog had digestive issues.

Dog.com also has a great deal going on Eagle Pack Dry Dog Food for small breeds. They are selling 30-pound bags for $27.59. Their regular price is $42.99. It is on sale for $36.29, regularly $44.39, at another site. This is an excellent deal for 30 pounds of a good dog food. The first two ingredients are chicken meal and pork meal. I know what you are probably thinking: “pork?!” I’ve been there.

Pork is not a meat that you commonly see listed as an ingredient in dog food. Chicken, beef, lamb, turkey and even duck but pork?! You may be surprised to find that pork is actually a good protein source for dogs. I tried giving my older dog food that had pork listed as the main ingredient, mostly because it was the best I could find where I was living at the time, and I was so glad I did. Within weeks his eyes were brighter and his coat became thicker and shinier. This food has lots of happy 5-star customer reviews on-line at Chewy.com.

If you prefer high-end holistic dog food, Dog.com has a deal for you. They have Earthborn Adult Vantage dry dog food on sale for $20.59 for a 14-pound bag. This is an amazing deal for this food. They ordinarily sell this size bag for $32.29. Amazon also has some great holistic dog foods, such as Purina Beyond Natural Dry Dog Food that’s selling for $8.99 right now (a discount of 92%!)

Earthborn dog food deal is all over the place, and it is also on sale at Chewy.com for $29.99, regularly $37.43. I have never fed this food but, just looking at the ingredients, I would. It contains yummy, healthy things like sweet potatoes, brown rice, barley, blueberries, apples, carrots and spinach. There are lots of good, 4- to 5-star reviews of this food on Chewy.com.

If you are looking for canned dog food, Chewy.com again has some more awesome deals on canned dog food. They have Nature’s Recipe canned dog food on sale right now. Nature’s Recipe is a good, affordable, well-balanced food that Chewy.com has made even more affordable. Amazon has a somewhat good deal on Purina ALPO Dog Food Wet Dog Food that’s worth taking a look at, but there are better deals out there.

When it comes to Chewy.com, if you spend $49.00 or more, shipping is free and they give you an additional 20% off when you sign up for Autoship. This is a great savings program to sign up for if you are going to get regular deliveries of food. You can change the order anytime you want. They usually only give you 5% off for Autoship. Chewy.com has a wide selection of Nature’s Recipe flavors:

• Chewy.com also has some deals on Nature’s Recipe flavors for $17.98 per case. These flavors ordinarily cost $20.00 to $24.00 per case. They have chicken/rice/barley, vegetarian and lamb/rice/barley at this reduced price.

• Chewy.com also has Blue Buffalo canned dog food on sale. They have cans of Homestyle Recipe Turkey Meatloaf Dinner with Garden Vegetables on sale for $25.39 per 12-can case. They ordinarily sell this flavor for $33.48 per case.

• Chicken Dinner with Garden Vegetables & Brown Rice is also on sale for $25.39 per case. This flavor is usually $37.69 per case. Lamb Dinner with Garden Vegetables is a little more expensive at $28.68 but this is still a great deal for this food. It ordinarily sells for $39.59 per case. That’s a savings of almost $11.00.

• Merrick Seasonal Grain-Free Forever Home Holiday Recipe canned food is on sale for $23.29 per case at Chewy.com. They ordinarily sell it for $36.99 per 12-can case. This food has beef, chicken eggs, peas, potatoes and apples in it. The chunks of meat and vegetables are small in this flavor but it is chunky food in gravy.

• Chicken Soup for the Soul canned food is only $17.49 per 12-can case at Chewy.com. It regularly sells for $23.88 per case. This is a good canned food with lots of 5-star reviews for a good price.

• Natural Balance Delectable Delights are on sale for $23.88 per case at Chewy. These are wet, stew-type foods that come in a variety of flavors.
