Dog elected mayor of minnesota town – for a third term!

Duke – a 9-year-old Great Pyrenees – has just been elected as mayor of Cormorant, Minnesota and believe it or not this is his third term!

With one of the highest approval rates of any politician in the country, it’s no surprise that the citizens of Cormorant, Minnesota elected Duke for a third consecutive term. In fact, only one person in all of Cormorant voted against Duke. Hoping to see a woman in office, one resident instead cast a vote for Lassie, Duke’s girlfriend.

“I don’t know who would run against him because he’s done such great things for the community,” Cormorant resident Karen Nelson said.

As part of his mayoral duties, Duke makes public appearances and promotes the city on billboards. When he’s not serving the people of Cormorant, he spends his days at the farm.

Believe it or not, canine politicians aren’t that far-fetched! Throughout history, four-legged friends have been voted mayor of many small towns. Learn about them here.
