$5000 Reward offered in minnesota dog poisoning case

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poisoning several Minnesota dogs.

Police, dog owners, and the Humane Society of the United States are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for the death of at least one dog and the poisoning of at least two others after rat poison and dog food soaked in antifreeze have been found in the yards of several Hopkins, Minnesota dog owners.

Residents in the area are asked to call police if they witness anything suspicious or have recently had a sick dog that they believe may have been poisoned. In addition, the Humane Society of the United States has offered a $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible.

Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and residents in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.

“Deliberately poisoning dogs is not only cruel, it is also a crime,” said Christine Coughlin, Minnesota state director for The HSUS.  “We hope our reward helps find the person or persons who are committing these despicable acts.”
