Katharine F. Lemansky, better known as “Katie Brown” famously posted a photo of her Chocolate Lab to her Facebook page, the dog’s muzzle duct taped shut with the caption, “This is what happens when you don’t shut up.”
The photo created a social media storm and sparked a nationwide manhunt for Lemansky. Police forces across multiple states worked together to locate the woman and her dog who were finally found in Cary, North Carolina.
When she was found, animal control officers examined both of Lemansky’s dogs and found them to be in good health, current on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and very well cared for. Because there were no signs of injury to the dog, not even detectable hair loss where the tape had been placed, the dog was not removed from her care.
