No light. No food or water. No room to move. Life-giving air running out. Panic sets in. For many, there is no worse fate than being buried alive. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened in Voronezh, Russia.

About a week ago, local workers had been called to repair a sidewalk where a suspected sinkhole had started consuming the pedestrian path in a busy neighborhood. The hole was filled, and the sidewalk was repaired. But that’s where the story takes a turn for the worse.

Later that evening, a resident began hearing the faint bark of a dog. This was no ordinary bark, but clearly a cry…a cry for help. For the next two days, the sound of the dog could be heard intermittently as it pleaded for its life. Residents contacted the housing authority to see what could be done, but they claimed there was nothing they could do. However local resident Vadim Rustam and his family knew that something had to be done. So they began searching for the source of this canine call, and finally found it.
