Friendly dog found duct taped and beaten needs a home

Sergeant Louis Barbarelli, a Sergeant with the NYPD and a volunteer for Bronx Tails Cat Rescue, was on vacation when he got a call about an abused dog behind an apartment building in the Soundview section of the Bronx, New York City. When he arrived on scene, what he found was shocking.

A small, white Bichon Frise mix had been beaten, cut, had shoelaces tied around his neck, and had his mouth and nose tightly taped shut with several layers of silver duct tape, before being left to die behind the apartment building.

Snoopy, as rescuers have named him, was bruised and bleeding, his white fur gray and matted with dirt. Jennifer Chance, of Second Chance Animal Rescue, the organization that is caring for the sweet boy, says the dog also had marijuana residue within the substance of his coat. When they removed the tape, little Snoopy drank a lot of water, indicating that he had been taped for quite a long time.

Witnesses said they had spotted the dog laying in the apartment building’s courtyard for several days before he mysteriously disappeared. It wasn’t until days later, when one resident spotted little Snoopy in an elevator and called police that he was rescued. The rescue organization believes that people walked past him for days, either without noticing or without caring.

Snoopy is expected to make a full recovery, thanks to Second Chance Rescue, who say that in addition to being incredibly sweet, he is housebroken and appears to have had some training. Clearly he was, at one time in his 3-years of life, a loved family pet.

Neither Snoopy’s original owners, nor the person(s) responsible for abusing him have been found.
