Check out House with a Heart – it’s an animal shelter specializing in caring for senior dogs and providing end of life care for them. (more info below)

House with a Heart is a nonprofit animal shelter in Gaithersburg, MD. The shelter takes in senior dogs and cares for them as they approach the end of their lives. Sher Polvinale started the shelter in 2006, following her retirement after a +30 year career working in animal rescue.
The House with a Heart shelter does not adopt out the animals taken in. Instead, the shelter provides a safe and loving environment for senior dogs to live out the rest of the days.

The House with a Heart shelter currently cares for 30 elderly dogs and 4 cats. In order to fund the shelter, they also take in local boarder animals. Sher, along with 50 volunteers, manage the shelter, and the house is constantly active nearly all hours of the day. The House with a Heart shelter is one-of-a-kind. It has a two acre fenced in property, with doggie doors at several major entrances, allowing the animals free reign of the area. It’s a wonderful home for these senior dogs who aren’t quite done giving out heaps of doggie love.
It’s a beautiful cause I think we can all relate to, especially for those with a soft spot for senior dogs (like I have).
