An 11-year-old Lab/Cocker Spaniel mix was given up to Morrow County Dog Shelter in Mount Gilead, Ohio by parents who apparently wanted a completely empty nest. The dog was their daughter’s, and when she went away to college, they decided the dog should go away, too.

The senior dog, whose name was not given to shelter personnel, is a mild-mannered, potty-trained, lovable mutt who gets along with just about everyone, except for cats (from whom he keeps his distance because he’s afraid!). However, he’s an active fella who would easily transition into almost any household.
It’s hard to imagine anyone being able to wipe their hands clean of an 11-year relationship with a faithful friend, but unfortunately, it happens all the time.

But here’s the good news: as of December 24th, the Morrow County Dog Shelter’s Facebook page stated that they have been inundated with thousands of messages from people interested in bringing this sweet senior home (let’s hope they took a browse at his kennel mates and adopted some of them, too)! This is the most recent post regarding the Lab/Spaniel mix, so there’s a good chance he had a home for Christmas, and if not, he will soon!.
If this story touched your heart, remember that there are thousands more adoptable dogs, young and old, in desperate need of forever homes (#adoptdontshop)! Check out sites like Petfinder, or Google your local shelter or Humane Society, and you can literally save a life–and in more ways than one, your life will be saved, too.
