DescriptionThe Golden Retriever is a widely held breed of dog that originated in England. It belongs to the Sporting breed group which is generally adored for their being pleasant, experienced companions. The breed has been bred for hunting. Golden Retrievers are usually in medium size, and they have coats that could either be straight or slightly wavy. The breed may come in varying shades of cream or gold.Height and Weight

The male members of the Golden Retriever breed normally weigh 65 to 75 lbs., and stand 23 to 24 in height at the withers. Bitches, on the other hand, are rather lighter and smaller. They weigh about 55 to 65 lbs., and stand about 21 to 23 in height measured at the withers.

Temperament

Golden Retrievers have been renowned for their obedience and devotedness. They generally make excellent family pets. They are commonly very friendly with children and other animals. Since they tend to love “everyone”, they typically do not make great watchdogs.

Golden Retrievers need human interaction and companionship to be happy. They are gentle, and they usually make good guide dogs. The breed, however, tends to bark to say “hello” when greeting someone, and this one habit is quite annoying to most owners. As their name implies, Golden Retrievers love retrieving. As a matter of fact, playing fetch can already keep them happily entertained for several hours.GroomingMost members of the Golden Retriever breed which have long hair need grooming that is done at least a couple of times a week. To keep them clean and free from “dingle balls”, the hair around their back side have to be trimmed.
