Video: Police dog put down after one final ride in squad car
Madison County Sherifff’s Deputy Jonathon Cornelison is on paid administrative leave while an investigation into the death of his K9 partner is underway.
K9 Lina, a 5-year old Belgian Malinois died of apparent heat stroke after her handler/partner of three years, Deputy Cornelison left her inside his patrol car, parked outside of his home on Friday.

Video: Cops Shatter Car Window To Save Dying Dog
Lina was trained to track and detect narcotics. “We got lots of drugs with her,” Sheriff Phillip Morgan said. She became a part of the MCSO three years ago, after citizens and businesses in Madison County donated the funds necessary to acquire the dog, her equipment, and to train Deputy Cornelison to properly handle and care for her. She was the department’s only canine officer.
Details of Lina’s death and the events leading up to it are still being investigated. It is unknown whether the MCSO will continue their K9 program with another dog.
