Puppy unable to walk surrendered by breeder is now recovering in a baby bouncer

Meet Bueller–a two-month-old puppy who was surrendered to the Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) by a breeder because he is suffering from Swimmer’s Syndrome–a genetic defect.

Bueller has never been taken to the vet. The muscles in his rear limbs are too weak that he cannot walk- he cannot even stand. So unlike other normal puppies who run around and play, Bueller just lays on his stomach, with his legs splayed out.

The veterinary team of the SSPCA have been brainstorming and putting together a plan for Bueller’s therapy.

Sarah Varanini, foster care coordinator at the SSPCA, told The Dodo “The usual course of action is to tape or splint the legs closer together in a more normal position.”

And since water therapy can help Bueller’s muscles gain strength and help him move his legs, he has a water therapy session everyday for 10 minutes.

Thankfully Bueller also found a foster home. And his foster parents were very helpful to his therapy. They even thought of putting him in a baby bouncer. They thought that with the baby bouncer, Bueller will learn to put his weight on his legs, which will aid him to learn how to walk.

His foster parents have a Boxer too, whom Bueller really loves!

We hope that with all the therapy he’s going through, Bueller will someday learn how to stand and walk on his own. And we sure hope that he will also find a loving forever home.
