This dog lost all four legs at the hands of a breeder…but he’s learning to walk again

For a dog, running around and playing make up a lot of an average day, so it’s heartbreaking to hear stories like this one. Brutus is a two-year-old Rottweiler who, thanks to a callous breeder, is a quadruple amputee. He lost all four of his legs as the result of frost bite. His breeder then decided to amputate all of his legs himself. Absolutely awful. But Brutus’ story isn’t an entirely sad one. His foster mom Laura Aquilina was approached by OrthoPets, a group in Denver that makes prosthetics for about 250 animals each year worldwide. They offered to design a set of four custom prosthetic legs for the brave pup.

Though he’s still getting used to the new limbs, Laura hopes Brutus will eventually be totally comfortable with them, and able to participate in the activity and playtime he deserves. “We want to be able to give him a higher function, where he can run and play with other dogs, go on hikes,” she said. It’s so heartwarming to see a group of strangers band together and try to help make this poor pup’s life a bit easier. Though this isn’t an ideal situation, we have a feeling Brutus is a fighter, and will get used to his new legs very soon!
