Depression in pets is as real as calories in pepperoni pizza. In fact, one documentary, Home Alone Dogs (released in 2013), showed that one in four pets in Britain suffered from depression due to loneliness at home. The situation in the US is even worse.

Here is a short clip from that show, but you better have the tissues handy…
Dogs can suffer depression, just like us, and Princess, once a happy 8-year-old Bulldog mix, knows this better than anyone. Sadly, she used to find herself staring hopelessly at the four lifeless walls of the animal shelter she lived in. What worried her more than living in the shelter was that she had been returned to the organization three times…
…and she had been there for two and half years.
Her indifferent family surrendered her to the Maricopa Country Animal Care and Control in Phoenix, Arizona in January 2013 when they decided to move to a new location. After spending her life with them, their best payback was to abandon her during her hour of need.
Poor Princess was put on the kill-list.
But, a Good Samaritan – Elena Bobu, a kind lady who works for Rescue Pals – stepped in to help Princess. Rescue Pals is a volunteer group that rescues and helps dogs in need.
When Elena came to pick Princess up, her reaction was totally priceless. Princess was visibly happy – she wagged her tail in excitement and did a happy dance. It was a joyful moment for her, and she couldn’t wait to get out of there.
According to her website, Princess is one of the cutest pooches out there. She has a great personality – friendly, playful, super-sweet and an experienced kisser. Besides, she makes a perfect and selfless cuddling partner.
Unfortunately, she has been unable to find a home that will take care for her, love her unconditionally and keep her forever.
According to Elena, Princess has been disappointed a number of times. Each home she was brought into simply wasn’t a good fit for her. She has been forced to live in a trashy backyard full of dirt, garbage and no water. At one point, Elena was forced to pay the ‘owner’ $100 to get Princess back.

Princess believes that one day she’ll find a home, and a loving family that will restore her lost glory. According to her Facebook page she was adopted again in December of 2015. Hopefully her new family will welcome her in and care for her throughout her golden years.
If you’ve ever considered adopting a dog, an older pet may be even better than a puppy. Older dogs are already trained and they have plenty of life experience. Yes, sometimes they have a few kinks to work out, but don’t we all?
