It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Grady!

grady7-93835Grady is an 11 year old, 53 pound American Pit Bull Terrier who was dumped by his owners at a local shelter when he was 9 years old. His owners reason for surrendering was that they got a new puppy and were only allowed one dog where they were moving.

He was rescued by Saved by the Bell Bully Rescue located in Louisville, Kentucky.

Grady loves food, car rides, baths, sleeping, being active (on his terms), being the center of attention, and cuddling. He doesn’t enjoy being outside alone, and small children tend to frighten him.

grady6-65724Grady would thrive in a home with adults. He adores people, although loud and bouncy children upset him. Grady is fantastic in public, and always steals the show! He loves the companionship of one female dog at a time. He can be active for his age, but is also fine sleeping on the couch all day, too! Grady is crate and house trained, though he needs to be let out every few hours for potty breaks due to his age. Multiple dogs tend to overwhelm him, so he’d do best in a home with one female dog. He ignores cats that ignore him.

Grady needs an indoor home only with a fenced in backyard! He has minor arthritis, but no major health issues! He’s a wonderful senior dog just waiting for that certain someone to love him for the rest of his life.

Grady will soon face his third Christmas without a family.
