The 12 dogs of christmas: meet elsa, in rescue for over 400 days!

It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Elsa!

Elsa is a 2-year old, 45-pound Boxer/Border Collie/Lab mix who was rescued from a kill shelter by Love Mutts Rescue, Inc. of central North Carolina.

There’s only one way to truly convey Elsa’s personality: a day-in-the life report. If she could talk, it would be something like,

“It’s 7am, are you awake? No? Alright, I’ll go watch out the window. Uh..I hate to nudge you but it’s 8am and have you seen how beautiful it is outside?! We NEED TO GO OUTSIDE. I love when you take me outside! I love this collar you’re putting on me! I love this water bowl! I love you!!! Well, let me see how record breakingly fast I can find a spot to pee. Yep, there it is. BACK INSIDE! Alright, it is morning so I guess I can chill on the couch while you get ready and make breakfast. . .oops, I fell asleep. Ah, are you putting your shoes on? You’re leaving? I’ll sit by the door to say goodbye. Let me just lick you a few times as you’re leaving. And one more on the ankle. The hand too, don’t forget the hand lick. I’ll be sure to watch as you drive away! See ya later. Whew, peace and quiet. . .and back to the couch.”

Elsa is simply just happy to be alive and next to somebody! She can get excited around other dogs quickly calms down.

She fetches, knows all her basic commands (and some pretty interesting ones), and is such a love bug. Elsa is INCREDIBLY affectionate. She’s great in the car too!! She truly is amazing and will make an absolutely wonderful, loyal best friend for you. She’s the perfect dog to come home to! She would rather spend time next to you than do anything else in the world. Please consider a adopting Elsa! She’ll win your heart immediately.

She should have a fenced yard, unless her forever family is willing to play, walk, and exercise her regularly. She is high energy, but settles in so calmly in an apartment & at the boarding facility. Elsa prefers to be the only spoiled princess in her castle.

Elsa will soon face her second Christmas without a family.

Elsa’s adoption fee of $250 includes all her vetting and microchip. She is heartworm negative & has been on prevention all year.
