The 12 dogs of christmas: meet maxwell, in rescue for over a year

It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Maxwell!

1960898_730628783689677_7379751369910460563_oMaxwell is a Boxer/Lab Mix who arrived at Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in Manistee, Michigan in October of 2014.

Maxwell is around two years old and he is full of energy!! He is super friendly, very playful, and would love an active new family of his very own!

Special Considerations: He may be too much for really young children due to his high energy level but this guy definitely is no couch potato and needs to stay busy!

While his puppy energy wants to jump and greet you, a command of sit will have him down and waiting for his next one. Maxwell had a hard time walking on a leash but he has come a long way. He is a great dog just needing a family willing to continue his training to make him the awesome family pet he can be! Maxwell plays hard and wants to be the top dog so we are suggesting he be the only pet. You need to meet this great guy.

Maxwell will soon face his second Christmas without a family.
